As I sat silently in Arboretum, an teenage boy who probably was in high school approached me and asked. Do these dreams ever come true? As if I didn't understand, I asked, which dreams? The ones that we tell our parents when we are young, do we ever achieve them? He clarified.
"Mmm.. They do". I responded. He looked me straight in the eye for quite sometime before I interrupted and told him a story.
"I grew up in the village with my parent and neighbours' children to play with everyday after school. My parents owned a black and white television, I kept abreast of every shows from Monday to Monday. I barely missed one and if that was to happen, we would go the neighbours to watch no matter the time of the night. I loved every bit of that life. My dream however, was to be in Nairobi city one day, to board a bus most often and to get some pretty good cash. All these have achieved." Dreams always come true as long as you have the courage to pursue them. (Walt Disney)
The boy was completely startled. Although, he further questioned why my dreams seemed so easy. I responded that it is all I ever needed and it is all I ever got. What more would I yearn for? He again asked me why he hasn't achieved his dream. I told him he is in the process. He just needed a little patience and more effort to get whatever he wanted. Later that evening he told he is in pursuit of his dream.
Six year later,we met again in the same place and this was the time he confided to me that at last he achieved his dream. The dream was meeting a true friend. I don't know who the friend was and I never asked. As he was leaving he said, I would wish to be you.
We all have dreams, some small and others big but as long as we can keep holding that grip of our dreams, as long as we give it a priority, as long as we keep it at our finger tips wherever we go, it will always go with us.
